Globalization is one of the most discussed and most controversial terms in modern history. It is generally defined as a process in which the world becomes smaller due to increased communication and cooperation between nations, individuals and business associates. However some see a more sinister connotation to the term and its meaning. Most conspiracy theorists consider that the globalization as the world is experiencing it; is the globalization of the leading powerful companies and rich individuals. Furthermore some suspect that the current stage of globalization is just the prelude to a one world government that will strip the humanity of its civil rights.

Most of those theories are unfounded, even though there is a slight possibility that those climes might be true, time will tell. What is true however is that the globalization as the world is experiencing it, is definitely leading to a one world society and quite possibly towards a one world government. On the other hand of course there are many of those who claim that a one world society and a one world government is going to be a good thing for everyone. Furthermore the supporters of globalization usually claim that the opponents have no real arguments against the phenomenon.

The fact of the matter is that apart from the conspiracy theories the biggest real problem of globalization is the globalization of corporate capitalism. The globalization of huge corporations is slowly pushing small private business from the market; as well as the big corporations are lowering the wages of the working class all over the world. Furthermore the globalization of corporate capitalism also allows private clubs to influence Global Legislative and Financial organizations like the IMF and even the UN.

Time will tell whether the conspiracy theorists or the globalization optimists were right. However history has shown that it is mostly on the side of the pessimists. Namely, what the world is experiencing now is hardly the first globalization and the first global society. The period prior to WWII was considered a global period and many of the ancient empires were actually global societies. The Persian or the Roman Empires were global societies due to the fact that they encompassed the currently known world and were working under the directions of one centralized government; the world government as some would put it. All those global societies tragically crumbled under their own weight which is quite likely also going to happen to this one.
