We would like to welcome you to the semester Fall2015 at Virtual University of Pakistan. We hope that you will enjoy your studies at Virtual University during this semester and especially learning, “Total Quality Management”.We hope that you will not only gain relevant knowledge but also be able to implement this knowledge in practical life.
The objective of this course is to define all aspects of quality, and to explain its importance in organizations. It details the key components of quality management and its relevance to organizations producing goods and services. It focuses on the different views of quality and stands for some of the latest ways in which organization can incorporate quality to its goods, services and processes. It helps the organization regardless of its size and business nature within its domain.
The course is designed to help students by perfecting their skills in the key domains of quality management that are necessary to perform well in an organization. The participants of this course would be able to acquire skills that help them to lead their teams successfully and achieve how to implement and manage quality programs effectively and efficiently in their own environment of organization.
Toexcel in the courseand have better grades, you are supposed to be self-responsible and regular in your studies. For this purpose,
- Do follow the Lecture Schedule strictly and remain updated with it.
- Keep visiting VULMS regularly. It will provide you the complete guidance throughout the semester regarding various activities i.e. assignments, quizzes, Graded Discussion Boards (GDB) etc.
- Do explore VULMS to get advantage of all the available resources i.e. course handouts, PPTs, FAQs, glossary and additional reading material.
- Do not hesitate to use “Moderated Discussion Board (MDB)” to post your lecture related queries.
- Attempt the quizzes and assignments with in stipulated time

ASSIGNMENT NO. 01

Mr.Sheraz recently got appointed as CEO at firm that manufactures and
provides shoes at national level. He held several meetings with all the
departmental representatives of the organization to get a picture of the
prevailing situation. After all the meetings held, he stood dissatisfied and
therefore decided to take measures that may enable the firm not only to achieve
efficiency but also get competitive advantage over the other firms as well. For
this purpose, he visited every department of the organization including
Finance, Marketing, Production & Operations, IT and Administration and
studied their structure and value chain analysis. He left the doors of his office
open to all the suggestions and then delivered several decisions. These included
the coordination among all the departments, removal of several steps from the
Productions department that were having no value at all, initiated several
employee welfare programs, and established a Research and development
department to come up with the new customer demands so that they may be
incorporated either in the existing products or may attempt to come up with
the new products in order to satisfy the customers.
Question: One of the colleagues working in the same organization pointed
that Mr.Sheraz is just proving his existence but his secretary said that Mr Sheraz
is simply trying to incorporate “Total Quality Management”. Elaborate the
statement of his secretary with logical reasons.
